Benson City Manager Vicki Vivian and Mayor Toney King

Bios

Mayor Toney D. King, Sr. has served in City government since 1999 with an appointment to the Planning & Zoning Commission. In 2001, Mayor King was elected as a Council member and served in that capacity until he was elected as Mayor in 2011. Mayor King is now running unopposed for his 5th term as Mayor.

Along with serving in local government, Mayor King’s community service includes volunteering his time coaching baseball, softball and t-ball for 6 years before coaching soccer for 11 years. Mayor King also volunteered time at the school serving as the head of referees and umpiring games.

Mayor King worked in retail for over 30 years, climbing the ranks where he served as the manager of a Safeway store with 110 employees and a working budget of $53 million before retiring from Safeway. He and his wife, Brenda, who have been married 27 years, now own their own business and enjoy spending their free time with their family, which includes 5 children and 8 grandchildren. He also enjoys bull riding, shooting and hunting and fishing.


Ms. Vicki Vivian serves as the Interim City Manager and the City Clerk for the City of Benson and has received several certifications including the Certified Municipal Clerk from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, Certified Elections Officer from the Arizona League of Cities and Towns and is a graduate of the AGTS Supervisor’s Academy.

Ms. Vivian had over 13 years of administrative and executive experience in the private sector before joining her local government organization. She has over 15 years of administrative and managerial experience in government, including serving as the City’s Utilities Compliance Officer for 2 years which encompassed her successful pipe fusion training, allowing her to fuse pipes in the City’s natural gas system. Ms. Vivian is an active member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and the Arizona Municipal Clerks Association, serving on previous committees and presenting in past elections training and conferences.

An Arizona native, Vicki was born in Cochise County. She met and married her husband, Dan, in Mesa; and after living in Maricopa County for 7 years, they made their way back to Cochise County where they have lived in Benson for the last 26 years. Vicki and Dan have 5 children and 9 grandchildren, whom they enjoy spending time with, when she and Dan aren’t at Disneyland.
